A line from page 149 of Robert Lypsite’s novel The Contender is an excellent example of figurative language because of its imagery. The simile, “Hubbard rushed out of the corner, swinging his left like a meat hook” is a great line in how it lets the reader see how powerful and dangerous and painful Hubbard’s punches are to Alfred…it’s not just a fist coming at Alfred, it’s a metal meat hook!!!
